Once you are safe, we can work together in therapy to process the situation and help you manage these concerns in the future.
What happens during our first therapy session?
In the first session, we focus on getting to know you and understanding your current situation. I’ll ask about what brought you to therapy, your goals, and little about your background, and any other relevant information about your life. This helps me understand your priorities and tailor sessions to your needs. We’ll also go over how I work, confidentiality, and what to expect from future sessions.
How long will I be in therapy?
The length of therapy varies depending on your goals, the issues you want to address, and your progress. Some clients work together for a few months to address specific concerns, while others continue longer-term for ongoing personal growth and support. We’ll review your progress regularly to ensure therapy continues to meet your needs.
How often do we meet?
Most clients start with weekly sessions to build momentum and establish consistency. Over time, we may adjust the frequency based on your progress and current needs. During particularly stressful periods, more frequent sessions can be arranged, or we may taper to biweekly or monthly sessions as goals are achieved.
How do I know if this is a good fit?
The best way to tell is how you feel after a couple of sessions. Do you feel heard? Understood? Comfortable? That’s what matters most. I offer a free consultation so you can get a sense of my style before deciding whether to move forward. You deserve to work with someone you connect well with and can support your goals, so I’ll be honest with you about whether I think I can help.
Will you tell anyone what we talk about?
Everything you share in therapy is confidential. I will not share your information with anyone without your permission, except in specific, legally required situations, including:
If there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or someone else.
If there is suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elderly adult, or dependent adult.
If I am ordered by a court to release records.
I will explain these exceptions in our first session so you know exactly what is private and what situations require disclosure. My goal is to create a safe space where you feel comfortable sharing openly.
How do virtual sessions work?
Virtual sessions are conducted through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Sessions can be accessed on your computer, tablet, or smartphone. The platform is encrypted and private, and I will guide you through the setup. It’s important for you to have a quiet space and a reliable internet connection so that you can focus fully on the session, which helps make therapy more effective and comfortable for you.
